Student-Athlete Mental Health and Well Being Workshop
October 18, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Committee on Collegiate Sport at UNC in conjunction with the Faculty Athletics Committee is sponsoring the Committee’s final event, “Student-Athlete Mental Health and Well-Being Workshop,” on Thursday, October 18 (the first day of Fall Break), from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., University Room, Hyde Hall.
The purpose of this workshop is to gain a better understanding of the particular mental health challenges faced by student-athletes while also learning about the resources available to all of our students at UNC-Chapel Hill. The workshop will feature a welcome by Dean Kevin Guskiewicz, College of Arts & Sciences; keynote presentation by the NCAA’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brian Hainline; a panel of student-athletes; a presentation on mental health services for UNC students; and a working lunch providing an introduction to Mental Health First Aid training by Jodi Flick, Clinical Associate Professor, UNC School of Social Work.
Please RSVP by close of business on October 15th to attend this informative event.
The Committee on Collegiate Sports at UNC was created by Faculty Council in 2015 and began meeting in 2016 to organize several campus events related to varsity athletics topics nationally and their impact on athletics at the University. The first event was held on September 14, 2016, “How Can We Better Help Student-Athletes who Seek More Time for Academics and Student Life.”
