GPSG Senate
GPSG Spring Senate Elections will be held in on September 4th! If you’re curious about what being a senator entails, how it benefits your department, or how to become a senator, you can read more information here, or click here for more information about the election process.
If you’re interested in running, we’d love to have you on board! You can register as a candidate from August 26th – August 30th on HeelLife here. (Be sure you are logged in!) If you have missed that date, you can also run as a write-in candidate. Voting will occur on September 4th on your HeelLife Homepage.
GPSG Senate is a unique opportunity to represent your unit and make your voice heard. We are a diverse group of Graduate and Professional students who are passionate and friendly. Join senate if you have ideas and want to motivate change at the university.
Recognizing graduate school is demanding on all our time, the GPSG Senate meets only once a month. Meetings are usually the second Tuesday of each month September through April. The meetings are scheduled for 5:30pm and begin as soon as a quorum is present. Meetings usually consist of an open forum, reports from the Executive Branch, reports from the Committees, discussion and voting on business (bills and resolutions), and a guest speaker on University-related issues. We typically try to end the meeting within two hours. We also provide dinner for all Senators and a hybrid option for those that are unable to attend in person.
Senators will also attend one training session in September. For more information about being a senator, feel free to email Senior Vice President Xavier Daniels or Vice President for Communications Joana Vazquez.
External Appointments
Graduate and professional students have representation on more than 100 committees and task forces around campus, including the Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor, the Tuition and Fees Advisory Task Force, and advisory boards for everything from Campus Recreation to the BeAM Makerspaces. GPSG oversees the appointment of students to these committees, and we have dozens of spots left to fill. If you have questions, please contact Chief of Staff Bex Nelson.
Leadership positions
Most GPSG Executive positions are appointed in the Spring, however, a few positions remain open into the fall. For more information on open positions, look on our HeelLife page for open applications. The 24-25 Leadership application is here.
