Transportation
Being a UNC student means using the Triangle’s great transit services.
Your first visit in Orange county should be to a NC DMV. It should be your first step towards residency in North Carolina. Make sure you look over the NC driver’s handbook.
Before getting your license, make sure your care is insured. A few options in the state are AllState, Geico, Erie, esurance, and Statefarm.
On UNC Campus
There is no free parking on-campus from 7:30 am—5:00 pm during the week. However, there are pay lots on Franklin St, Rosemary St, and on South campus. With the exception of some spots on game-days, weekend parking is free and open. As of Fall 2018, night parking will require a modest fee. Find UNC parking news here.
Prefer not to park? Go by foot or bike. Chapel Hill maintains extensive sidewalks and bike paths. Does the July heat keep out indoors? Take a Chapel Hill Transit or Triangle Transit bus (find routes and bus locations at NextBus!)
